War in the Pacific National Historical Park and its partner, Pacific Historic Parks, proudly announce this year's Preservation Ranger Academy. The park is seeking motivated high school students who have a passion for the environment and who are willing to take on leadership responsibilities.

This free, dynamic program introduces youth to fun, safe, and exciting ways to explore our island’s coast and learn about marine science at Guam’s only national park. In the first portion of this two part program, from July 10-20, 2017, Preservation Rangers will learn leadership skills, how to be a mentor, how to identify sea creatures, and will be provided First Aid, CPR, AED, and safety training. Upon successful completion, certificates will be awarded to participants.

During the second portion of the program, Preservation Rangers will choose to serve as youth leaders during one or two session of the park’s Reef Ranger Summer Camp program. As role models, the Preservation Rangers help the younger reef ranger campers learn about water and hiking safety. Preservation Rangers can select to participate in Session I: July 24-28 and /or Session 2: July 31- August 4, 2017.

Application packets are available at www.nps.gov/wapa. Completed applications can be dropped off at the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center (located near US Navy Base Guam), or emailed to educationspecialist@pacifichistoricparks.org.  All applications must be submitted no later than Sunday, June 4, 2017.
