April Programs

April 4, Saturday: 2 pm at Ga’an Point - “They Fought for Guam” 

The Battle of Guam involved nearly 55,000 American and over 18,500 Japanese troops. While they all fought in the same battle, each would walk away with their personal perspective of war. Join a park ranger as he shares the battle from the perspective of the 77th Army Infantry Division. (30 minutes)

April 5 and 26, Sundays: 2 pm at Asan Beach - “Plants of Guam Hike” 

Explore the ridge at Asan Beach with a park ranger to discover uses of the plants of Guam. While some plants were introduced to help revegetate the island after the Battle of Guam, many native plants survived the war and island development. Some are found nowhere else in the world than this protected ridge! Meet at the restrooms. (One hour)

April 11, 12, and 18: 2 pm at Visitor Center - “America’s Best Idea” 

Join us on a journey through some of the most majestic sites of our nation and see the people who fought for preservation for generations to come. The T. Stell Newman Visitor Center will show the first three of a six-part film The National Parks: America’s Best Idea by Ken Burns to bring in the celebration of National Park Week. (Two hours)

April 19, Sunday:10 am at Micronesia Mall - “Find Your Park! Art Show” 

Visit the Micronesia Mall center court to view artwork created by the Astumbo Middle School Dragons! Through the Ticket to Ride program, funded by the National Park Foundation, students created artwork that shares their park experiences at War in the Pacific National Historical Park. Join our park partners, Pacific Historic Parks, and park rangers in discovery and commemoration of the places we protect for the enjoyment of present and future generations. (All day)

April 19, Sunday: 2 pm at Visitor Center - “ScienceSunday” 

This series ofSunday programs features guest speakers who help make the science all around us applicable and fun. This month, Dr. Tom Schils from the University of Guam Marine Lab will provide an update to the community about the algal bloom happening in southern Guam. (One hour)

April 25,Saturday:10 am at Visitor Center - “Sumay Remembrance” 

Join us at the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center in celebration of Back to Sumay Day, with historical photos and stories presented by Toni Ramirez. This day honors and unites former residents and descendents of the once prosperous seaside village that is now part of Naval Base Guam. (One hour)
