Contact: Dan Brown, 671-333-4051 Join park rangers for an arduous, adventure hike this Sunday, June 17 at 9 a.m. Mount Tenjo, the peak that towers over Orote Peninsula and Apra Harbor, was once home to the World War I-era Camp Barnett. Here, U.S. Marines installed a battery of guns and served an idyllic tour of duty, removed from the bustle of Agana and Sumay. A few decades later, the mountain became an important landmark for another generation of Marines in the 1944 Battle for Guam. Today, Mt Tenjo is rarely-visited, but holds a wealth of historic remains and one of the best views of southern Guam. |
