National Park Service and Outdoor Foundation Select War in the Pacific National Historical Park as 2016 Challenge Cost Share Program Recipient More than $360,000 awarded to 17 projects that promote urban outreach, youth engagement and connecting people to the outdoors. Hagatna, Guam –Recently the National Park Service and the Outdoor Foundation announced recipients of the 2016 Challenge Cost Share Program, which supports projects that promote urban outreach, youth engagement and connecting people to the outdoors. The partners selected 17 projects, from 62 applications, and more than $360,000 that will be matched by an estimated $760,000 in direct and in-kind contributions from recipients. More than 10,000 youth are expected to be engaged through the program. Many of the selected projects join in the celebration of the National Park Services Centennial. War in the Pacific National Historical Park (NHP) received a grant in the amount of $5,000 with matching funds from non-profit partners Pacific Historic Parks (PHP) to support its work to connect with participants of the 12th Festival of the Pacific Arts (FestPac). War in the Pacific NHP and non-profit partners Pacific Historic Parks will provide the History Genre Delegates transportation for a "War in the Pacific History Tour".This historic tour will target three prominent locations at War in the Pacific NHP: Asan Beach, the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center/Museum, and the Asan Bay Overlook and Memorial Wall. Superintendent Jim Richardson stated, "We are pleased to welcome the delegations from 27 Pacific Island Nations and Territories to the island of Guam, to encourage them to visit their national park, to share our island history and their Pacific history with the History Genre Delegates. It is a rare opportunity we look forward to being involved with, and we thank FestPac History Genre Chair Kelly Marsh and Monica Guzman FestPac Programming Chair for helping us to coordinate this effort with the visiting Delegates."
