April Public Programs at War in the Pacific National Historical Park

 
Every Sunday: 1 pm at Visitor Center – “Explore! Chat with a Ranger”
Our newest program: a short, conversation driven, chat with a ranger about the diverse topics of War in the Pacific National Historical Park. These 15-minute informal programs will allow you to dive deeper into topics of your interest. April 3,5,6,10,11, & 12: 4 pm at Visitor Center – “100th Anniversary of the Sinking of the SMS Cormoran”
Commemorating the 100th anniversary of the scuttling of the SMS Cormoran, enjoy a talk about the history of this event and how it fit into the world events of the day. The talks will be held on April 3, 5,6, 10, 11, & 12 at the T. Stell Newman Visitor Center. Detailed topics at https://go.usa.gov/xXXzu
 
April 7, Friday: 7 pm at Visitor Center – “From the Nursery to the Graveyard: The Life of a Star”
Ever have questions about stars in our night sky? Enjoy this talk about the evolution of stars and our society's connection to them. The talk is accessible and a non-technical look at our night sky.  Enjoy hearing about the life of stars, how the stars have been important to humans throughout history, and the impact of light pollution. This program is limited to the first 55 participants. After the presentation, enjoy looking through telescopes to discover featured topics discussed.
 
April 8, Saturday: 9 am at Asan Beach - “Keep Guam Beautiful”
This community cleanup will take place at Asan Beach - a former WWII invasion site. Cold water in coolers, protective gloves, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring refillable water bottles and wear closed-toe shoes, hats, and sunscreen. All ages are welcome. Service learning credit is available. For more information, contact e-mail us.
 
April 8, Saturday: 7 pm at Asan Beach – “Night under the Stars”
Join the park’s Dark Rangers at Asan Beach and experience out of this world family fun, excitement, and learn about nighttime astronomy. The Dark Rangers will be on hand to guide you through our night sky with their telescopes. Visitors will have opportunities to look at stars, planets, and other terrestrial objects. The program will be held near the flags by the Liberators’ Monument. Large telescopes will be set up for the public to view. The program is free of charge.
 
April 15, Saturday: 10 am to 1:30 pm at Asan Beach - “Junior Ranger Day”
Kids of all ages are invited to Asan Beach for the opportunity to join the National Park Service “family” as Junior Rangers. To learn more about Guam’s rich history and natural resources , kids can participate in a variety of hands-on activities, games, and art projects.. They will earn their official Junior Ranger badge. Oath ceremonies will be held at 11 am, 12 pm, and 1 pm.
 
April 23, Sunday: 2 pm at Visitor Center - “Science Sunday”
Science Sunday features current research projects happening right here on Guam and the Micronesian region. Open to all ages. No pre-registration is required. For more information on this event, call 333-4050 or email gureefmonitoring@gmail.com.
