On Sunday, July 19 at 2:00 p.m. in the park visitor center, Dr. Lance Janda, Professor of History at Cameron University, will discuss the life and times of Lt. Edward S. Godfrey, one of the more remarkable personalities who fought with the 7th U.S. Cavalry at the Battle of the Washita.Lt. Godfrey, while leading his men across the Washita River to its north bank, mounted a rise and "could see hundreds of tipis in the downriver camps." Lt. Godfrey's orders were to round up the ponies from Chief Black Kettle's village. To learn the "rest of the story," please join us as we continue our Summer Lecture series.

Dr. Janda earned his Ph.D. in History from the University of Oklahoma in 1998, and has taught at Cameron since 1999.He currently teaches courses focusing on the American Military, 20th Century America, and a broad history of the United States since 1865.

We hope you will be able to join us at the Washita Battlefield National Historic Site visitor center on July 19 to hear Dr. Lance Janda. Afterwards, there will be refreshments for all to enjoy.
