Firewood Restrictions

Protecting Against the Emerald Ash Borer

To protect our forests' health and to prevent the spread of the invasive Emerald Ash Borer, firewood restrictions are in place in Voyageurs National park. The Emerald Ash Borer is spread through the transportation of firewood and attacks and kills ash trees. Help us in keeping our forests healthy for you to enjoy.

What Firewood Can Visitors Use?

  • Certified by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). Local vendors such as gas stations, tourist service provides, and others sell firewood certified by the MDA. No other firewood may be brought into the park. For more information about these restrictions, visit the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website.

  • Wood at your campsite that is both dead and downed. Do not cut down any tree in the park, living or dead, or break branches or peel off bark of standing trees for firewood. Chainsaw use is prohibited.
