Contact: Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument Storm Permits
ST. JOHN, U.S. Virgin Islands — Virgin Islands National Park and Virgin Islands Coral Reef National Monument today announced procedures for mariners registering their vessel in Hurricane Hole for the 2026 hurricane season. Applications must be received by the park by May 15.
Vessel owners who held storm mooring permits in 2025 and wish to retain the same berth for 2026 must submit a renewal application. If a vessel was sold or transferred during the past year, the new vessel owner must renew the previous year’s storm permit to retain the berth.
Applications are available at the NPS Visitor Center in Cruz Bay, St. John or by email upon request. The park will use the Special Use Permit form that was introduced last year and will continue to waive permit fees.
Completed applications must be received no later than May 15 by one of the following methods:

in-person delivery at the Visitor Center between 8:15 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Friday
Upon receipt and verification of the 2025 berth assignment, the NPS will issue a new permit for the same berth.
A virtual drawing for all unassigned berths will be held on May 22 at 5:30 p.m. To enter the drawing, completed applications must be received by May 15. The park will notify selected applicants of their assigned berth by phone.
