Field Officer's Tent

This exhibit shows the inside of an officer's tent. Most furnishings in this display are original, with the exception of the camp table (under the field desk) and tent. Of special interest is the field desk used at Vicksburg by Captain Henry Ede, regimental quartermaster, 81st Illinois Volunteers.

These are items were what the officer would need to live and work in the field - a lot like what you would take when you go camping.

 

And did you notice the tree stump with the cannon ball? That was found along with the other shells and camp gear seen in the next exhibit.
