Monument is located on Union Avenue 100 yards south of Grant Avenue. Also a marker designating the assault of 19 May 1863 on the ridge, south side of Graveyard Road, 300' east of the Stockade Redan; a marker designating the assault of 22 May 1863 off Confederate Avenue, south of the Missouri Memorial and markers designating a sharpshooter's line, 500' off the north side of Graveyard Road on the ridge closest to Confederate Avenue and 200' behind the Maj. Gen. Martin Luther Smith Bust. This unit was attached to Col. Thomas Kilby Smith & Brig. Gen. Joseph A.J. Lightburn's (assumed command 24 May 1863) 2nd Brigade of Maj. Gen. Francis P. Blair's 2nd Division, Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's XV Army Corps and was commanded by Col. Oscar Malmborg. The regiment lost 1 officer (Lt. Levi Hill) & 2 enlisted men KIA and 2 officers & 2 enlisted men WIA in the assault on Vicksburg, MS 19 May 1863; 5 enlisted men KIA and 1 officer & 12 enlisted men WIA in the assault on Vicksburg, MS 22 May 1863 for a total of 25 casualties.
