This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Marcellus A. Stovall's Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge's Division, Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Relief, Department of the West, and commanded by Col. L.L. Bowen and Lt. Col. Edward Badger. Transferred from the Department of Tennessee, the consolidated regiment arrived in Jackson, MS, on 1 June 1863. On 4 July 1863, the unit's headquarters was located near Bolton, MS.
