Monument is located on Union Avenue approximately .2 mile west of Grant Avenue. This unit was attached to Brig. Gen. Joseph A. Mower's 2nd Brigade of Brig. Gen. James M. Tuttle's 3rd Division, Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's XV Army Corps and was commanded by Col. John N. Cromwell and Lt. Col. Samuel R. Baker. The regiment lost 1 officer killed (Col. John N. Cromwell killed near Jackson on 16 May 1863) and 3 enlisted men wounded at Jackson, MS 14 May 1863; 5 enlisted men killed, 2 officers and 31 enlisted men wounded in the assault on Vicksburg, MS 22 May 1863.
