Multiple monument located on Union Avenue west of the Navy Memorial, opposite Steele's Statue. Also a marker designating a sharpshooters' line on Union Avenue approximately 0.4 miles west of Thayer's Approach (Park Tour Stop #6), and a marker designating the assault of 22 May 1863 on the north side of Union Avenue approximately 0.7 miles west of Grant Avenue. This unit was attached to Colonels Francis H. Manter's and Bernard G. Farrar's (assumed command 13 June 1863) 1st Brigade of Maj. Gen. Frederick Steel's and Brig. Gen. John M. Thayer's 1st Division, Maj. Gen'ls William T. Sherman's and Frederick Steele's XV Army Corps, and commanded by Col. Thomas C. Fletcher and Lt. Col. Samuel P. Simpson. At Chickasaw Bayou (26 Dec 1862 - 2 Jan 1863) the regiment was attached to Brig. Gen. Francis P. Blair, Jr.'s 1st Brigade of Brig. Gen. Frederick Steele's 4th Division, Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman's Expeditionary Force and commanded by Col. Thomas C. Fletcher (wounded and captured), Lt. Col. Samuel P. Simpson (wounded), and Maj. Frederick Jaensen.
