This unit was attached to Col. John M. Simonton's Task Force Simonton, of Maj. Gen. Franklin Gardner's 3d Military District at Port Hudson, LA, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton's Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Capt. Gadi Herron. Originally known as Herron's Company Mississippi Cavalry, this organization was re-designated Co.
