Now it is time to check in at the Visitor Center. Here you can watch the orientation video, "In Memory of Men," an 18-film that tells the story of how Union General Ulysses S. Grant carried out his operations to capture the city of Vicksburg.
General Grant marched his army from Memphis, down the Louisiana side of the Mississippi River, then crossed, with the help of the Union Navy, at Bruinsburg Crossing. From here, the general moved his soldiers northeast, fighting battles with the Confederates at Port Gibson, Raymond, Jackson, Champion Hill, and Big Black River Bridge, before reaching the outskirts of Vicksburg. |
