Attention: National Trails Day has been canceled due to weather!

Celebrate America's 50th Anniversary of the National Trails System by visiting Valley Forge for National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2. Try well-loved trails or lesser-known ones that will surprise and challenge you. Have you crossed Sullivan’s Bridge? Climbed to the heights of Mt. Joy and Mt. Misery? Join experienced park staff, partners, and volunteers on guided hikes and walks. Space is limited, and pre-registration (bottom of this page) is required for most trips. All National Trails Day events are free.


PROGRAMS INCLUDE:

National Trails Day Info Table (8am-10am)
Located at the pavilion next to the Visitor Center.

Bark Ranger Program (8am-9:45am)
Located at the Pavilion next to the Visitor Center.
Bring your dog, learn how to enjoy Valley Forge with your favorite companion, and take the B.A.R.K pledge. Bark rangers will get a free bandanna and maybe a treat.


Hike 1: Mt. Misery Hike (8:30am-10:30am)
Unpaved trail. Elevation gain: 200'+ (strenuous) 15 max participation

Reach new heights on the challenging and rocky Mt. Misery and enjoy the scenic beauty of Valley Creek. Restrooms and water located at the parking lot on Wilson Rd. Click HERE to view the route map with the starting location.

Hike 2: Mt. Joy Hike (8:30am-10:30am)
Unpaved trail. Elevation gain: 250'+ (strenuous)
15 max participation
Enjoy a challenging hike with dramatic views on this shady forested trail. Restrooms and water available at Washington's Headquarters. Hike starts from Knox parking lot. Click

Hike 3: Steuben Hike (9:00am-10:30am)
Paved & unpaved trail (moderate)
15 max participation
Experience the stunning meadows that make up the Grand Parade. Restrooms and water available at Artillery Park lot. Click

Hike 4: Chapel Trail Hike (9:00am-10:30am)
Paved & unpaved trail (moderate)
15 max participation
Enjoy the hidden gem beauty of the Chapel Trail. Restrooms and water available at Varnum Picnic Area parking lot. Click

Bike Rodeo for Kids (9am-12pm) 40 max participation
New this year! Bring your bike, helmet, and lock to learn proper bike safety, play games, practice skills on a course, and enjoy rides for different skill levels. The bike rodeo will be located at Betzwood Park. Click HERE to view the route map with the starting location.

Historic Hiking Tour (9:30-11:30am): For this program call 610.783.1074
Paved & unpaved trail (moderate) 20 max participation
A good mix of distance, challenge, and history on this 2.8 mile hike through fields, forest, Mt. Joy—and with a surprise stop near the end... Restrooms and water available at Artillery Park lot. Click HERE to view the route map with the starting location.

Hike 5: River Trail Hike. Walk ons accepted. (10:00am-12:00pm)
Unpaved trail (easy) 20 max participation
Adventure on the north side of the park and learn about the animals that call Valley Forge home on this hike geared toward families and kids. Restrooms and water available at the Betzwood Parking Area.

Hike 6: National Monument Walk. Walk ons accepted. (10:00am-12:00pm)
Paved trail (easy) 35 max participation
See the Muhlenberg huts, the Grand Parade meadows and the Arch. Restrooms and water available at the Visitor Center.

Historic Bike Tour (10:00am-12:00pm): For this program call 610.783.1074
Paved (moderate) 5 mile loop. 15 max participation.
Enjoy a free historic bike tour of Valley Forge. Participants should plan to bring a bike or rent one there (bike rental opens at 9am). Restrooms and water available in the visitor center parking lot next to the bike rental. The tour leaves from the bike rental shed, and is capped at 15 people, ages 12+. Crayfish Corps Service Project (9:00am-12:00pm)
Join National Park staff in the battle to suppress the rusty crayfish population by physically removing them from the creek. For more information click
