Operating Hours & Seasons

Tonto National Monument Hours:

Lower Cliff Dwelling

• May-August: Open 8 am-12 noon. Visitors must begin their hike before 12 noon.
• September-April: Open 8 am-4 pm. Visitors must begin their hike before 4 pm.
• Trail may close due to excessive heat, lightning, bee activity, or flooding.
• The trail is 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) roundtrip and takes an average of one hour to complete.
• The monument is busiest on the weekends and it is recommended to visit mornings or weekdays.

Upper Cliff Dwelling

• Available only with a guided tour and reservations are required.
• Tours occur November-April, Saturdays and Sundays.
• Trail may close due to excessive heat, lightning, bee activity, or flooding.
• The trail is 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) roundtrip and takes 3 to 4 hours.

Museum and Visitor Center

• Open 8 am-5 pm: September to April
• Open 8am to 4:pm: May to August

Regular Closures:

• Thanksgiving Day: CLOSED
• Christmas Eve: Park closes at 1:45 pm. Lower Cliff Dwelling Trail closes at 12 pm.
• Christmas Day: CLOSED
• New Years Eve: Park closes at 1:45 pm. Lower Cliff Dwelling Trail closes at 12 pm.
• New Years Day: CLOSED
