Roosevelt, AZ - Join Park Ranger Christa Sadler to explore the wonders of the night sky in an evening full of telescopes, constellations, and more at Tonto National Monument. 

Events will include stargazing, interpretive astronomy programs, and Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities for kids. Bring water and snacks, a flashlight or headlamp (preferably with a red light or red gel filter for better night sky observation), warm clothing, and closed toed shoes. This event is free and open to the public. Join us at the Visitor Center parking lot. 

No camping as available at Tonto National Monument. The nearest camping is available at Windy Hill Campground in Tonto National Forest. For more information on camping visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/tonto/

Saturday, January 28, 2017 – Planets and the Solar System – 7:00-9:30pm
You have heard of Jupiter and Mars, but do you know how these planets fit into our solar system? What is the sun? Explore the solar system and all of its components!

Saturday, February 25, 2017 – Ancient Skies: Prehistoric Astronomy – 7:00-9:30pm
For thousands of years, humans all over the world have looked to the night sky for guidance. Discover the various ways prehistoric people used the stars and the sky to live and thrive.

Saturday, March 25, 2017 – Early Astronomers and Theories – 7:00-9:30pm
Uncover the history of modern astronomy by gaining knowledge of some of the first European theorists on the workings of the universe. Have you ever wondered who invented the first telescope? Who thought the earth moved around the sun? Learn about the discoveries night sky pioneers of the past have brought to modern astronomy!

Saturday, April 29, 2017 – Star Party – 7:00-9:30pm
Join us in an evening of celestial celebration to prepare for the summer season. Stargaze with Park Rangers, earn your Junior Ranger Night Explorer patch, and create your own constellation!
