In order to mitigate heat-related incidents and promote visitor safety, Tonto National Monument will reduce summer hours to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. starting on June 1, 2019 and ending on August 31, 2019. Visitors who wish to hike to the Lower Cliff Dwelling should plan to start their hike before 12:00 p.m. No fees will be charged after access to the Lower Cliff Dwelling has been closed. As an alternative, visitors can hike the Cactus Patch Loop which showcases some of the key plants of the Sonoran Desert and provides scenic views of the Lower Cliff Dwelling. The Visitor Center will remain open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. featuring the museum, replica room, ranger-led programs, an engaging 20-minute movie about the Salado, as well as opportunities to shop at the Western National Park Association Bookstore.
