Cedar Point Boat Ramp to Close for Construction

Starting May 4, 2009 The boat ramp at the end of Cedar Point Road will soon be undergoing reconstruction. Formerly part of Buddy’s Fish Camp, the area is now part of the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. The old concrete boat ramp will be rebuilt starting on May 4, 2009.

During construction, which is expected to take about three months, the ramp area and parking lot will be closed to the public in order to allow the contractor adequate space for the equipment and materials. The rebuilt ramp will be a single lane wide and will have a dock to assist in launching and retrieving boats. The rebuilt ramp will be at the same location as the existing ramp.

During the closure of the Cedar Point ramp, you may use nearby boat ramps at Sisters Creek, Joe Carlucci, Palms, and Big Talbot Island, all on Heckscher Drive. Canoes and kayaks can launch at the northern end of Pumpkin Hill Road. The Timucuan Preserve is a 46,000-acre area with individual park sites to visit. Each park site is unique for an aspect of natural or cultural history. Cedar Point is a 400-acre site located on the south end of Black Hammock Island.

The date the ramp will reopen, once known, will be posted at the Park’s web site at www.nps.gov/timu. Boat ramp users can also call the Timucuan Preserve Visitor Center at (904) 641-7155 for the latest information about the ramp closure.
