Environmental Assessment for Seawall at St. Johns Bluff

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (Public Law 91-190, as amended) the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve has prepared an environmental assessment to evaluate the potential impacts of replacing and extending the seawall/bulkhead below Ribault Column, a portion of Fort Caroline National Memorial, located at St. Johns Bluff. The purpose of this seawall is to halt erosion along St. Johns Creek.

This environmental assessment (EA) evaluates several different construction alternatives, including an option to relocate the Ribault Column and the no-action alternative. We encourage you to review our EA and submit your comments to the park, both by accessing the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment website.

A paper version of our EA may be obtained at park headquarters. Please call 904.221.5568 for hours and directions. Comments may also be submitted by mailing them to:

All comments must be received no later than close of business on February 28, 2010.
