Sea Island Cotton Today

Sea Island Cotton is still grown in the West Indies today. There are mentions of developing or increasing the Sea Island cotton in Jamaica, Haiti, Antigua, Barbados, Guyana and Nevis in various online articles.

The Farmer to Farmer program has provided training to farmers in Jamaica in recent years. Pest control, irrigation and land drainage systems and equipment management and maintenance are current problems being addressed. The implementations of pest control practices have reduced pests with less insecticides of lower risk to workers, environment and general public. The Sea Island cotton industry has reported an increase of 10% in Jamaica.
