Ranger-led Programs at Padre Island
Attending a ranger-led program in the park is a great way to discover new things and learn more about Padre Island National Seashore. The park offers a variety of ranger-led programs such as deck talks and beach walks.
All programs are offered free of charge. However, there is a fee to enter the park.
Check the calendar or the NPS App for daily activities and at the visitor center for special pop-up programs being offered.
Children in attendance at programs must be accompanied by an adult participant during the entire program.
Unplanned Cancellations
Ranger-led programs may be cancelled during inclement weather or unplanned staffing shortages. Stop in at the visitor center when you arrive to check on the program schedule for that day.

Beach Walk
Stroll along the sandy Gulf shoreline and uncover the hidden wonders of the seashore. Guided by a park ranger or volunteer, this leisurely walk introduces you to the area’s fascinating natural and cultural history while exploring what the tides have brought in. From seashells to stories of the past, every step offers something new to discover!
Location: Malaquite Visitor Center
Duration: 45-60 minutes

Coffee With A Ranger
Enjoy a warm cup of coffee and a friendly conversation with a member of our park management team! This informal, drop-in program is the perfect opportunity to ask questions, share stories, and learn more about the park—all while taking in the beautiful view from the visitor center deck. Coffee is generously provided by our friends at Western National Parks. Help us reduce waste by bringing your own mug to make this experience even more eco-friendly.

Duration: Drop in anytime—coffee will be available for 1 hour.

Cowboys and Caracaras
Step back in time and explore the rich ranching history of Padre Island while keeping an eye out for the striking crested caracara and other birdlife along the way. This casual, ranger-led walk takes place at the historic Novillo Line Camp—the last remaining 19th-century line camp in the park—offering a unique glimpse into the island’s past and its vibrant wildlife.
Location: Meets at Malaquite Visitor Center. Participants will then drive to the Novillo Line Camp trailhead.
Duration: 90 minutes

Deck Talk
From the vast coastal prairies and hypersaline lagoon, to the sandy gulf beaches and the tidal mud flats, Padre Island has unique habitats that teem with life. Native Americans, Spanish explorers and cattle ranchers have all walked along the shores here and so can you. Join a park ranger or park volunteer to discover what makes Padre Island National Seashore special. A variety of topics including geology, plants, animals, and history may be presented.

Learn to Surf Fish
Join a Park Ranger and volunteer Fishing Ambassadors for a hands-on introduction to surf fishing! This family-friendly program is perfect for beginners and covers the essentials—from basic tackle and casting techniques to stewardship and conservation. Park staff and volunteers will guide you every step of the way, giving you the confidence to start fishing on your own.

Reading With A Ranger
Beat the summer heat and join a park ranger at the library! Learn about an interesting animal that calls the national seashore home by listening to a story and participating in a hands-on activity. The Reading With A Ranger program is presented in partnership with Corpus Christi Public Libraries. This program is intended for young children.

Sunrise Yoga
Awaken your senses and embrace the tranquility of the morning with our sunrise yoga class on the rooftop deck of the Malaquite Visitor Center, overlooking the sparkling waters of the gulf. You'll witness the sun rising over the horizon as you cultivate inner peace and vitality in this picturesque setting. Led by a certified yoga instructor, this one-hour, unique experience harmonizes mind and body through gentle movement and stretching, accompanied by the soothing sound of the ocean.
