Thing to Do
Fishing on Lake Roosevelt NRA
With over 600 miles of shoreline, both inside and adjacent to the recreation area, Lake Roosevelt offers plenty of opportunities for spectacular places to cast a line. Find a beautiful spot to spend the day along the shore or grab a permit and take your boat out on the deep, blue water.
You can fish from shore anywhere outside of harbors and designated swim areas. Fishing is prohibited in harbors and designated swim areas because hooks and fishing line can result in injury or drowning.
Before you go: Check out the updated fish consumption advisory from Washington Department of Public Health.
Need a boat or a guide? Check out the authorized fishing charter services at Lake Roosevelt.
Please do not put fish remains back into the lake.
They take a long time to decompose, resulting in a littered and polluted lake.
Learn the rules of B.A.R.K. to help protect your park!
Bag your poop! Keep our park a clean and healthy place to visit. Bags are provided at the visitor center, parking areas, and some trailheads. Put your bags in the trash when finished.
Always wear a leash! Even a well-behaved dog can get excited when visiting our national parks. Please stay on a leash no more than 6 feet long. This keeps everyone safe, and keeps Bark Rangers from accidentally scaring other visitors.
Respect wildlife! You are visiting the homes of other animals when walking around Lake Roosevelt. Please stay on the trails and be respectful. Please, no chasing any animals you may encounter.
Know where you can go! Dogs are allowed on the park, except in designated picnic and developed swim beach areas, as long as they wear their leash. Remember your manners when exploring so future generations of Bark Rangers can enjoy the park as well.
Please do not leave your pet in a vehicle during the hot summer days. Temperatures can rise very quickly inside and this can lead to the death of your beloved pet. If you're unsure whether or not it is too hot, then it probably is. Be safe, for their sake!
Washington State fishing regulations and licensing requirements apply when fishing on Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area. Anyone age 15 and older must have a personal use, recreational license valid for freshwater in their possession while fishing.
Anyone fishing from waters adjacent to or from the reservation shoreline should contact the tribes to determine whether an additional license is required.
