North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites and Properties

Within our division, we are proud to operate three (3) designated Network to Freedom sites (Colonial Park Edenton), Old Town of Halifax District, and Somerset Place). We also operate sites that, we believe, have strong freedom seeking history; specifically
Historic Stagville's remarkable connection to freedom seeker Mary
Walker, Ft. Anderson's use as a "contraband camp," Ft. Fisher's connection to freedom-seeking U.S. Colored Troops, and Reed Gold Mine's potential connection to enslaved people seeking refuge and/or routes via North Carolina's gold mines.
