WMPR Radio station is commencing in February of 2004 a weekly radio broadcast program entitled "The Drinking Gourd". This program has the express purpose of educating the public at large about the UnderGround RailRoad. The format is a 15 minute weekly broadcast. Live interviews will be conducted with current Network Partners, librarians, teachers and all persons interested in furthering the understanding of the UGRR. Additionaly each week there will be brief stories of the exploits and accomplishments of those who were actual participants in the UnderGround RailRoad. The show unlike other talk shows currently being aired on WMPR will be sponsored by the station. WMPR is a black-owned Public radio station in Mississippi. The station is a 100,000 watt station, reaching parts of Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansan & Alabama. Additionally the station has a web presence with simultaneous audio streaming. This we feel will be a most effective tool to further the goals of the National Network to Freedom program.
