Our organization is very involved with sharing local and regional history which gives new light to the history of legalized slavery in America. These places, people and events include the Great Dismal Swamp, a major stop on the Underground Railroad; the Nat Turner Insurrection which was the first significant slave uprising in North America and many other stories which present a more realistic view of how Americans dealt with this very divisive issue and whose legacy continues to resonate in modern times.
