The purpose of the Kentucky Underground Railroad Research Institute is to: *Stimulate interest, identify, map, document and distribute literature regarding UGRR escape routes, stories, personalities, and events; *Provide a central location for accessing and distributing information, documents, archival data, and artifacts associated with the UGRR; *Establish community educational programs for discussion, promotin, and technical assistance designed to empower community UGRR research and preservation; *Support local efforts to preserve and interpret the UGRR sites, including those that may not qualify for national recognition.
