Each year tropical storms will be the focus of national attention. Of particular interest are the intense storms, such as category 3–5 hurricanes, which have the potential to cause substantial economic and environmental damage along the nation’s coastlines.

Here are some examples of famous storms, including hurricanes, northeaster, southeaster, arctic, and “hybrid” storms, as well as storms related to El Niño events. All of these storms affected the National Park System.
