Strap from a wagon also on display at the Blacksmiths Shop. Metal straps were used to strengthen wooden wagon boxes. This particular strap is made of a semi-fused mass of iron with fibrous slag inclusions (up to 2% by weight). Notice the “grain” visible at the point of failure that resembles wood; having a very low carbon content, this “grain” texture indicates the material as wrought iron. |
