During our 50th anniversary, Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore plans to create a vision for our future, but we need your help! What should Sleeping Bear Dunes look like over the next 50 years? What would you like to see change and how?

To get your creative juices flowing, here are some of our upcoming projects and plans for the near future:

  • Enhancing visitor safety and providing opportunities to engage with the Lakeshore.

  • Keeping the celebration going into 2021 with a “51 is the new 50” mindset. Many activities that we had planned for 2020 will be rescheduled for next year. Stay tuned!

  • Updating our Junior Ranger book.

  • Taking our shiny new Mobile Visitor Center on the road to bring the Lakeshore to underserved communitie--putting your entrance fee dollars to work.

  • Finishing the new entrance kiosks at the Dune Climb and Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive.

  • Continuing our Anishinaabek Interpretation project in 2021 and work to hire student park guides to develop and present programs for visitors.

  • Continuing to create distance learning education programs to reach students around the region and around the globe. We currently have 17 distance learning programs and are in the process of developing middle school and high school curriculums in 2021.

What else should we be looking toward? Please send any ideas and suggestions for the future to SLBE_50@nps.gov. Thank you for contributing to the future of Sleeping Bear Dunes!
