Just inside the door of the Blacksmith Shop in Glen Haven sits this drill from 1895. Once located at the North Manitou Island Life-Saving Service station, this drill was used for the station’s building and boat maintenance. Notice the housing assembly and use of gear engineering; the intricate mechanics of this artifact are high tech for the late 1800s. |
