A tragic boating accident on April 9, 2021 took the life of Theodosy “Dose” Timothy Merculief. “Dose” was of Lingít and Unangan (Aleut) descent and an avid boater, fisherman and hunter. He was collecting herring eggs for family and elders when the accident occurred.
He left behind a devoted partner, Natalie Wojcik, and their 3 children. Aliyah 13, Auggie 5 and Xavier 16 months.
Dose worked at Sitka National Historical Park for three seasons starting in 2018, and particularly enjoyed taking care of the trails and lawns at the park, a part of his ancestral homelands which he cared for deeply. He passed away two days prior to the start of his fourth season. His park co-workers and the entire community of Sitka are mourning this tragic, untimely loss.
