Lowndes Countian Featured in "Ed Bell and the Piedmont Blues" Program

Join the staff at the Lowndes Interpretive Center at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 for the program - Ed Bell and the Piedmont Blues.

Ed Bell and the Piedmont Blues explores the history of the Blues with a special interest in the Piedmont style played by Lowndes County native Ed Bell. Throughout the presentation, we'll listen to some of Ed Bell’s discography and examine the characteristics of the Piedmont style as compared to the Delta style of Blues.

Dr. Allison Upshaw delves into the life of little-known musician Ed Bell of Fort Deposit, Alabama. Dr. Upshaw holds the position of Associate Professor of Voice at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL. She is a trained opera singer, a professional actress, and playwright. Allison has a B.M. in voice performance from Oberlin Conservatory and an M.M. in voice performance from Louisiana State University. Her doctorate is in interdisciplinary studies (aesthetic meaning making/performance/education) from the University of Alabama.This program complements the showing of the Crossroads: Change in Rural America exhibit that is on display at the Lowndes Interpretive Center through December 9. All programs are connected to the people and history of Lowndes County.
