As of Sept. 23, 2014, the Redwood Fire in Kings Canyon National Park is 100% contained at 5 acres. Two National Park Service fire crews took suppression action on the wildfire. The fire was started by a lightning strike after storms moved through the area on Saturday, Sept. 20. The park's Helicopter 552 and U.S. Forest Service's Helicopter 523 assisted Crew 91 and the Arrowhead Hotshots with suppression by performing numerous bucket drops on the fire. The area will continue to be monitored for any additional fire activity. There are no closures in effect at this time; however, smoke is still possible in the area surrounding Redwood Canyon and neighboring areas. |
