SEAC: Note 3
Official records of the 10th Wisconsin Battery indicate one gun was disabled during the battle and 10 horses captured. The after-action reports note that no one was killed. The Battery's official muster roll does not show a Sergeant John Swartz as a member of the Battery at any time during the war. The story of First Lieutenant Stetson single-handedly manning the gun, being shot down, and the death of Sergeant Swartz are probably mistaken by old warriors retelling tales of their youth. First Lieutenant Stetson was mustered out with the Battery after the war.
