Donna Gunn will present her program “Music on the Trail: Where American Folk Songs Meet Classical Art Music” in a virtual, online format on Saturday, March 20, 2021 at 1 pm Mountain Daylight Time. This presentation is made possible by Humanities Nebraska, the Nebraska Cultural Endowment, the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association and Scotts Bluff National Monument as part of the HN Speakers Bureau. Pre-registration is required. To register, please email Black Hills Parks and Forests Association at bhpf@blackhillsparks.org by 3 pm MDT on Friday, March 19, 2021.Donna Gunn, teaching-artist and founder of Focus On Piano, LLC, is dedicated to actively engaging music lovers of all ages, at all stages. Her programs are interactive experiences that invite audience members to sing songs from various points in history and re-visit timeless music. Donna interweaves music with relevant primary-source historical information to further bring the music to life.
“Music on the Trail” is one of approximately 300 programs offered through the Humanities Nebraska Speakers Bureau. The more than 165 available speakers include acclaimed scholars, writers, musicians, storytellers, and folklorists on topics ranging from pioneer heritage to ethics and law to international and multicultural issues, making it the largest humanities speakers bureau in the nation. Speakers are available to any non-profit organization in Nebraska. Each program lasts 30 minutes to an hour, plus a question and answer period. The most frequent users of the HN Speakers Bureau are primary and secondary schools, colleges and universities, libraries, museums, and historical societies, agencies for the elderly, rural organizations and ethnic organizations. Black Hills Parks and Forests Association (BHPFA) is the official non-profit partner of Wind Cave National Park, Jewel Cave National Monument, Scotts Bluff National Monument, Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, Black Hills National Forest, Nebraska National Forests & Grasslands and the National Grasslands Visitor Center. They provide vital funding to their public agency partners in support of their education goals.
The Scotts Bluff National Monument visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The summit road is open daily from 9 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. All Monument trails are open from sunrise until sunset.
