The Interagency Visitor Center and bookstore is open daily from 9am to 4:30pm. During daylight savings in spring and summer, the vistor center closes at 5pm. The Satwiwa Native American Culture Center is open on weekends from 9am to 5pm. Both are closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day, as well as some other federal holidays. While trails and parklands are open year round and 24 hours a day, parking lots are only open from 8:00 AM to sunset. During times of inclement weather or emergencies (fires, wind storms, etc.) parking lots and trails may be closed to protect park resources and the public.
Many national parks have busy summer seasons and quiet winter seasons. Here at Santa Monica Mountains, with our mild Mediterranean climate, we're fortunate to offer year-round programs and recreational opportunities. Still, there are some visitation patterns depending on where and when you go.
Mountains: Visitation is highest in spring and lowest in summer.
Beaches: Visitation is highest in summer and lowest in winter.
