Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area offers year-round recreation thanks to its mild Mediterranean climate. Trails are open 24 hours a day, while parking lots operate from 8:00 am to sunset.

Anthony C. Beilenson Interagency Visitor Center

Located at King Gillette Ranch in Calabasas, the visitor center features exhibits, a park film, and a bookstore operated by Western National Parks Association.

Hours:

  • Wednesday–Sunday: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Monday & Tuesday: Closed
  • Closed on most federal holidays

Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center

Situated at the southern end of Newbury Park, Satwiwa offers cultural exhibits and seasonal Native American programs.

Hours:

  • Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Monday–Friday: Closed
  • Closed on most federal holidays

Seasons

Many national parks have busy summer seasons and quiet winter seasons. Here at Santa Monica Mountains, with our mild Mediterranean climate, we're fortunate to offer year-round programs and recreational opportunities. Still, there are some visitation patterns depending on where and when you go.

  • Mountains: Visitation is highest in spring and lowest in summer.
  • Beaches: Visitation is highest in summer and lowest in winter.
