From Concrete to Greenspace

Join a ranger at a neighborhood park found within Los Angeles, where nature and the city collide. Students will learn about the adaptations of wildlife living in the urban and wildland interface.

Offered virtually Wednesdays through Fridays.

Content Focus: Adaptations and Habitats.

Our distance learning programs will support the concepts of local habitats and adaptations of animals and plants, exchange of energy flow, and the phenomenon that exist in these settings.

Topics and Essential Questions:

  • Difference between a biome and ecosystem;
  • Identification of habitats and what may live there;
  • Human influence on an environment; and

Adaptations of plants and animals within the urban wildland interface. Next Generation Science Standards

4-LS1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes

4-LS1-1. Construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.

4-LS1-2. Use a model to describe that animals receive different types of information through their senses, process the information in their brain, and respond to the information in different ways.
