Native Plant Restoration - Social Media Intern

Put your social media skills to work as you join the exciting native plant restoration activities in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area! The focus of the social media internship is to document SAMO restoration activities and produce native-plant themed content for various social media sites, including Instagram and Facebook. The social media intern(s) will work alongside the Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO) restoration and native plant nursery team. Approximately 75% of the hours for this position will be focused on producing targeted social media content, and approximately 25% will be hands-on field opportunities including plant propagation (nursery), seed scouting and collecting, plant identification and herbarium work, and assisting with various restoration projects around the park Weekly and monthly content to be produced will include photo posts, short (1-2 minute) and long (5-10 minute) videos, and promotional flyers and posters. Interns will check in at the native plant nursery located in Newbury Park, CA at Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa.

Duties

  • On a weekly basis, produce restoration and native plant-themed content for social media sites such as Instagram and Facebook

  • Create monthly 5-10 minute videos on various restoration projects around SAMO

  • Document day-to-day restoration and nursery activities

  • Accompany crews into the field for seed collecting, scouting, restoration, etc.

  • Assist in nursery and restoration work as time permits

Requirements

  • Intern must be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States.
  • Background experience in video editing as well as photography is beneficial.
  • Basic interest in ecological restoration, local native plant communities, communications, and social media.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Must provide own transportation to the work site at Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record are required to drive a government vehicle.

Work Site and Conditions

  • Majority of work will take place outdoors at the nursery as well as restoration sites; some work can be done from home.
  • Work site is located at Rancho Sierra Vista / Satwiwa in Newbury Park, CA.
  • Bending, lifting, and moving heavy objects may be required.
  • Weather can be hot, humid, cold or rainy.
  • Minimum commitment of 12 weeks, 3 - 5 days a week (part or full-time). Working on Saturdays is an option.
  • Interns are eligible for a $20/day stipend.
  • Housing is not available.
  • Position is available year round.
  • Fingerprint check may be required.
