Celebrate National Junior Ranger Day 2013 at your National Park!

Looking for something fun, free, and fantastic to do with family and friends? Why not become a Junior Ranger?! On Saturday, April 20, 2013 celebrate National Junior Ranger Day at Salem Maritime National Historic Site with free entrance aboard Friendship of Salem. The National Park Service (NPS) sponsors the Junior Ranger program to help children explore and discover their national parks. Through park-specific activities, children learn about the special places preserved by NPS and in turn become "Junior Rangers" to help protect these areas for the future.

We invite kids of all ages and the young at heart from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. aboard Friendship of Salemon Derby Wharf to tour the ship and meet National Park Service staff and Volunteers.  Participants will earn a Junior Ranger badge by attending and receive a Ship's Mate Activity Booklet. All Junior Rangers will be sworn in during their visit.

This year marks the 75thAnniversary of Salem Maritime National Historic Site-America's first national historic site. Created by a Secretarial Order, Salem Maritime National Historic Site protects the maritime resources of Salem's waterfront. The historic buildings, wharves, history and scenery will benefit and provide enjoyment for future generations. This year also marks the 25thAnniversary of the Salem Maritime Festival which will take place Saturday, August 3, 2013.

Discover the history and nature that will continue to engage visitors and stewards of Salem Maritime National Historic Site for another 75 years!
