News Release Date: January 7, 2011

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar announced that the National Park Service will waive admission fees on 17 selected dates throughout 2011 and encouraged all Americans to make a New Year's resolution to visit a national park this year."Many people have made resolutions to spend more quality time with loved ones and to get outdoors and unplug in 2011," said Secretary Salazar."There's no better place than a national park to help keep those resolutions. Parks offer superb recreational opportunities, making them perfect places to enjoy our beautiful land, history and culture, and nurture a healthy lifestyle."

The 2011 fee-free dates will be the weekend of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (January 15-17), National Park Week (April 16-24), the first day of summer (June 21), National Public Lands Day (September 24), and the weekend of Veterans Day (November 11-13).

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site will not be open on Monday, January 17th because we are operating on winter hours until Memorial Day. During the winter hours, visitor facilities, including the Roosevelt Home, will be open for tours and visitation Wednesday through Sunday only. However, the grounds of Sagamore Hill National Historic Site are open to the public year round from dawn to dusk without charge.

Visitors will still need tickets to tour the president's home. Tickets are available only on the same day as the tour at the Visitor Center. Tours are conducted every hour on the hour from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tours are limited to 14 people. Summer weekends often sell out hours in advance. It is recommended that visitors arrive in the morning to ensure getting on a house tour.

Sagamore Hill National Historic Site, located at 12 Sagamore Hill Road, Oyster Bay, New York, is a unit of the National Park Service. The site was established by Congress in 1962 to preserve and interpret the structures, landscape, collections and other cultural resources associated with Theodore Roosevelt's home in Oyster Bay, New York, and to ensure that future generations understand and appreciate the life and legacy of Theodore Roosevelt, his family and the significant events associated with him. Tours of the home are limited to fourteen persons and are offered on the hour on Wednesdays through Sundays from 10am to 4pm. Tour tickets are five dollars each and tickets are sold on a first-come-first-served basis each day beginning at 9 AM. The grounds of Sagamore Hill are open year round from sunrise to sunset.
