Environmental Factors

The park is constantly being influenced by environmental factors. With increasing urbanization, Saguaro is experiencing ecological changes brought on by its interface with the city of Tucson. Changes range from the introduction of new exotic plant species to city lights impacting the darkness of our skies. Park managers are taking an active role in addressing these changes with an adaptive management strategy. As scientific research provides protocols for monitoring the park's present state, we are able to deduce areas of concern that need assistance. One of the biggest areas of concern is climate change. Using research as tools, park managers can make decisions based on sound ecological facts to ensure park resources are being protected.
