In August, Rick Kendall, superintendent of Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, NH, will begin a four month assignment as superintendent at Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. That park includes the site of the Civil War battle of Gettysburg, the Soldiers National Cemetery where Abraham Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address, and Eisenhower National Historic Site, home of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.Kendall will return to Saint-Gaudens following this assignment. During Kendall's absence, Megan O'Malley, currently the chief of interpretation at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site and Johnstown Flood National Memorial in western Pennsylvania was named to serve as interim superintendent of Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site.O'Malley will begin her assignment in Cornish later in August. O'Malley has been chief of interpretation at Allegheny Portage Railroad and Johnstown Flood for five years.During that time, she managed all visitor services for both parks, as well as very active youth, community engagement, and education programs. Prior to her current assignment, O'Malley served for three years as supervisor of the Old Faithful Visitor Center at Yellowstone National Park, one of the busiest visitor centers in the National Park System.She began her career at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area in Pennsylvania, where her interest in the interface between arts and the National Parks began. It is expected that O'Malley will serve at Saint-Gaudens from August into December.Kendall plans to return to Saint-Gaudens by early January. |
