On Sunday, November 11, San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park will celebrate the last fee free day of 2018 with free admission to the 1907 tugboat Hercules, the 1895 schooner C.A. Thayer, and the 1890 San Francisco Bay ferryboat Eureka. The Park is also offering two special programs on Sunday: a Steam-Powered Donkey Engine Demonstration from 11am-4pm, and a ferryboat Eureka Engine Room Open House from 1-4pm.At the entrance to Hyde Street Pier, visitors will learn about the Park’s steam-powered donkey engine in a ranger-led program that includes steaming up and actually operating this historic piece of machinery. Aboard the ferryboat Eureka, Park staff will offer a rare glimpse into the engine room, and explain the hard work that was required to keep this giant, Victorian-era steam engine running.
San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, located at the west end of Fisherman’s Wharf, includes a fleet of historic ships, Visitor Center, Maritime Museum, Maritime Research Center, and the Aquatic Park Historic District.
