Full-Day Event Celebrates the NPS Centennial and the 1895 Schooner C.A. Thayer

With Traditional Music, Educational Programs, and Activities for All Ages

Saturday, August 20, 2016 at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park

San Francisco – Celebrate your maritime heritage at the free 2016 Festival of the Sea at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. On Saturday, August 20, help the Park celebrate the National Park Service’s 100th birthday, and the installation of three new masts in the park’s 1895 National Historic Landmark schooner C.A. Thayer, with a full day of traditional music, craft demonstrations, films, and fun for all ages.

Free, continuous music performances on three stages will feature internationally renowned acts and local musicians, including Robbie O’Connell and Dan Milner, Diana Gameros and Maria Montijo, Charmas, The Flying Angels Chinese Dance Company, Holdstock and Macleod, Carol Holdstock, Anita Singleton-Prather, The Dogwatch Nautical Band, Autumn Rhodes, Patrick Landeza, Richard Adrianowicz, Riggy Rackin, plus many more.

Family activities will include: storytelling, knot tying demonstrations, ships rigging demonstrations, a yawl boat launch, a sand castle building contest, sail raising, living history, and caulking, capstan and bilge pump demonstrations. Don’t miss this chance to see maritime history come to life, and “Find Your Park” on the San Francisco waterfront.
