The National Park Service selected David Brouillette to serve as the superintendent of San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park starting in July. He replaces Kevin Hendricks, who retired last month.

“Dave is energetic and passionate about America’s maritime history, and committed to preserving nationally significant cultural treasures,” said Stan Austin, regional director for the National Park Service’s Pacific West Region. “He brings extensive experience in addressing infrastructure needs, which will be critical to improving some of the park’s iconic features such as the Aquatic Park Pier.”

Brouillette has nearly 40 years of experience in park operations and facilities. He began his career in 1980 at Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts, and moved to Boston National Historical Park, where he applied his preservation skills of repairing historic ships. He was a leader in implementing maintenance management systems in both the Pacific West and Northeast regions of the park service before serving as deputy superintendent at Boston National Historical Park for 10 years. This is where he worked to rehabilitate the USS Cassin Young and the USS Constitution at the Charlestown Navy Yard. Brouillette moved back to the bay area in 2010, and currently serves as the facility manager at Point Reyes National Seashore.

“I’m thrilled to return to the waterfront,” said Brouillette. “I look forward to working with our local partners to preserve the San Francisco’s maritime heritage. I feel at home in this environment, and my years at Boston National Historical Park gave me the proficiency to tackle the significant maintenance backlog and rehabilitation projects at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.”

Brouillette’s wife, Patricia “Peetz” Brouillette, is an NPS landscape architect/program manager, and the Regional Accessibility Coordinator for the Pacific West Region. They have two sons, Wiley and Jesse, who are both attending college in Southern California, studying architecture and business, respectively.
