What is a Short-Term Lease?

Short-Term Leases are used by the National Park System to rent out certain properties for a short period of time (fewer than 60 days, and typically for just one day) for appropriate uses. San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park leases the Aquatic Park Bathhouse (now the Maritime Museum) when the building is closed to the public. Check the building's operation hours for more information. Appropriate uses include gatherings such as weddings, conferences, birthday parties, catered meals, and other gatherings.

Rates

Interested parties may choose to rent the entirety of the Aquatic Park Bathhouse (excluding the bottom floor, which houses the Sequoia Living Senior Center & NPS administrative offices), or smaller groups of spaces within the building. The building may only be leased during hours it is closed to the public. If you know which rooms you wish to lease, contact the park's Permit Office by email for more specific pricing.

What to know before you lease

The Aquatic Park Bathhouse houses the Maritime Museum. Originally opened in 1939, the building is the focal point of the Aquatic Park Historic Landmark District. To help protect this historic structure, there are some unique requirements and restrictions that lessees are expected to follow.

  • Event setup and tear down must not interfere with the public’s access to the Maritime Museum and cannot occur during the museum's regular operating hours. Event setup cannot begin until after 4 pm on days when the building is open to the public.

  • Dark beverages (such as red wine and coffee) are not allowed in the Maritime Museum in order to protect the building’s historic terrazzo floors.

  • Large items, such as chairs and tables, may not be carried up the stairs, which have original murals that could be damaged. All items must be transported via the building’s elevator, which has an opening of 7’ by 3’ (smaller than a typical freight elevator).

  • Short-term leases are offered on a first come, first served basis and depend upon the availability of NPS staff to host them. Generally, the park can support no more than two events per month. We recommend reaching out early to plan your event.

  • Lessees are required to complete a building walkthrough with NPS staff and any of your event contractors (caterers, event rental supply company, etc.) at least one week before your event.

  • Maximum occupancy for the full building is 225 standings guests, 150 seated. If you are seeking to lease individual rooms, occupancy limits may be lower.

  • Lessees are responsible for removing all event related waste and returning the building to its pre-event condition.

Your lease will list all of the building’s policies, and NPS staff are here to help lessees plan their events so that they comply with building policies.
