Visitor Center Theater at Mission San José Closed for Renovation

After 15 years of heavy use by park visitors, the theater for San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, located in the Visitor Center at Mission San José, will close for renovations. Beginning Monday, March 14, 2011, the theater will close for much needed repair work lasting approximately 2 months. The theater will receive a full face lift, with new seating, acoustical tiles, carpet, and HVAC units.

“While we regret this, during renovations, our award-winning movie, Gente de Razón, will not be shown.” stated Acting Superintendent Al Remley. In its 15 years of operations the park movie has been shown over 85,000 times to over 1.2 million visitors in the park’s Visitor Center. A DVD of the movie is for sale in the Visitor Center bookstore. In the meantime, Superintendent Remley encourages local residents to visit the San Antonio missions to see all the preservation and conservation work that is currently taking place.

For more information on visiting the park, call 210-932-1001, or join us on Facebook at San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
