May 16, 2012: The San Antonio Missions National Historical Park would like to invite members of our armed services, reservists, veterans and their families to enjoy the National Park on Armed Forces Day this Saturday, May 19. There will be tours at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM available to our service members, both active and retired, at Mission San José located at 6701 San José Drive. Kids have the opportunity to become a Junior Ranger by completing an activity booklet provided to them. All activities, tours and programs are free of charge and there is no admission to San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The National Park Service and Department of the Interior are grateful to the brave Americans who have sacrificed so much for our country. "Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to our service men and -women who make great sacrifices and put their lives on the lines to protect our country and preserve our freedom," Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said. "In recognition of their contributions and service, we are putting out a welcome mat for these brave men and women and their families at America's most beautiful and storied sites." "Our country's iconic memorials, open spaces, and majestic landscapes provide inspiration for those serving in the military, especially those far from home," said Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, whose agency oversees national forests. "In appreciation for their service, we want to encourage these men and women and their families to visit and enjoy America's wondrous lands and waterways."
To honor those who have served, many of our country's agencies have announced an annual pass to active duty service members and their dependents, granting free access to more than 2,000 national parks, wildlife refuges, national forests, and other public lands around the nation in the coming years.
